5 Day Adult Sailing Courses with Adam Beaudin - Available Dates April 30 - June 15

 

The five day sailing courses with Swiss Adventure Camp instructor adn Championship Sailor Adam Beaudin will build a high level of confidence on the water. You will learn how a sailboat works through practice and theory sufficient to control a boat in different conditions and get back to port with ease. Manoeuvring through the points of sail, motoring, docking, terminology and sail trim will be practiced in a fun and relaxed style making retention easier. Each participant will have plenty of time steering and trimming sails as they gradually build their confidence level.

You will come away, in quite a short time, with a surprisingly high comfort level on the boat. Although not yet fully experienced sailors, you will feel that you have made a decisive first step from land lubber to sea captain.
 
In a small group, participants will be taught the following over 3 days and 9 hours of instruction:
- sailing theory, terms, parts of the boat, boat safety
- setting up and putting away the boat
- points of sail, reading the wind
- basic boat handling as crew or skipper i.e. tacking, gibing, holding a course
- basic sail trim
- basic navigation, right of way rules,
- basic anchoring, docking
- heavy and light wind techniques
- ropes and knots
- introduction to the spinnaker (time permitting)

Adam spent more than 10 years of his youth focused primarily on racing sailboats and windsurfers. He spent a summer as a sailing instructor at the International Sailing School teaching sailing by day and racing every evening and weekend. It's that level of commitment that made him one of America's top junior champion sailors and he brings it to every one of our camps, making him one of our most prized teachers. His specialties are tactics, strategy and sail trim. Join Adam and set sail as a team on beautiful Lake Zürich!

All levels of sailing can be integrated into this camp.  We welcome the beginner to the more advanced young sailor.

Rowing Camp July 2 - 6

    

Be part of a crew this summer on Lake Zürich and increase your rowing skills in a thoroughly fun and positive environment!

This camp is for experienced or novice rowers and coxswains looking to improve their ability.  There will be two daily practices on water.  We will have active training in the gym throughout the week as well. (Row machines, circuit and erg training.) We will work together in boats of fours and eights where we are dependent on each other, learn to work together as a team with a degree of discipline and experience the true sense of swing!  Possibility of rowing individually as well.
 
Every participant must be able to swim.
Life jackets for every participant are provided on each boat.
If the caution or warning lights are  blinking on the lake we do not take boats on the water. In the case of bad weather conditions we will train indoors in the gym and in the indoor rowing tank..
 
Included daily in the camp fee:
Six hours of instruction with championship rower Dave Gabel, Head Coach of the Thalwil Rowing Club.
From 8 - 12 kids, there will be a qualified junior rower from the Thalwil club assisting.
Use of Thalwil Rowing Club boats, equipment, gear and indoor state of the art training facilities complete with indoor rowing tank as well as use of locker rooms and showers.

Rowing Camp July 9 - 13
